How we handle Piano & Heavy Items
The heaviest stuff takes know-how, not just muscle. An upright or a grand, a loaded safe, a jukebox, a full weight rack, each one goes on the right board and gets strapped down, along a path we map through the stairwell and the tight old doorways before anybody picks it up.
A flat rate you get up front, not a clock that keeps running
Most Providence movers start a clock the minute they show up and let it write your bill. Big Mikes does the opposite: Mike gives you one flat rate up front, and it covers the move, the heavy stuff, and any junk we haul off, so the number never climbs while the guys work.
Tell us about it
Run us through the place, the stairs and the street, anything that needs hauling away, and the dates you have in mind, over the phone, by text, or on a quick video walk-through.

Our trucks. Our guys. Nobody farmed out.
Your job is never sold to a broker or handed to day-labor you have never met. The guys carrying your couch are on Mike Barry’s crew, led by hands like Glenn who have done this for years, and the truck out front is ours, run out of our Mount Pleasant shop here in Providence.
- Big Mike’s own crewTrained, background-checked movers working Providence homes and offices all year round.
- Same guys the whole jobOne crew loads it, drives it, unloads it, and hauls the junk, so nothing falls through a hand-off.
- Careful, every timeFurniture under quilts, door frames wrapped, and runners down before a thing gets picked up.
The Big Mikes promise
On the rare day a Big Mikes job goes wrong, owning it and fixing it is our problem, not yours. You get a firm arrival window, a straight answer when something slips, and a crew that treats your place like their own.
✔ On the dot — the crew hits the window we gave you, and if it ever slides you get a call first.
✔ One flat number — you get it up front and that is the total, no meter and nothing rounded up.
✔ No runaround — if something is off we sort it right there on the spot.
✔ No hidden add-ons — fuel, the stair climb, and hauling the junk are already in the number.

Piano & Heavy Items FAQs
Will you move a piano, a safe, or other heavy stuff?
Yes, and it is baked into your flat rate. Pianos, gun safes, jukeboxes, and other heavyweights go on the correct board with proper straps and padding, wrestled out by guys who have shifted no shortage of them, 300-pound pieces up a staircase included.
How does the flat rate stay firm?
Mike weighs up what you are truly moving and how awkward the way in is, hands you a single number, and sticks to it. Provided the load lines up with what you described, move day settles on that exact flat rate, no meter and nothing rounded up at the end.
Do stairs, a piano, or hauling get charged at the end?
No. A three-decker stair climb, a piano or a safe, and any junk we haul off are all in the flat rate before the first box moves, so the number never drifts from what Mike quoted you.
How do the floors and walls stay unscuffed?
Runners go down on the floors, the door casings and railings get padded, and the furniture is blanket-wrapped first, so the old place and the new one both come out unmarked, tight three-decker stairwells and all.
How much notice should I give?
A week or two ahead works for most moves, and the ends of months go first. If the crew has an opening we will still take a same-week or next-day job, even a last-minute one, so it never hurts to give Mike a call.
Do you take a deposit?
Just a small refundable hold on your crew and your date, that is all. Everything else is due when the job is finished, and the estimate never costs anything.
