Providence moving FAQ

How does the flat rate stay firm?

Mike weighs up what you are truly moving and how awkward the way in is, hands you a single number, and sticks to it. Provided the load lines up with what you described, move day settles on that exact flat rate, no meter and nothing rounded up at the end.

Are the movers Big Mikes staff or hired out?

Our own, every time. Mike Barry keeps a trained crew on our own trucks, led by hands like Glenn who have been at it for years, so no broker takes a cut and no stranger walks into your home.

When and how do I pay?

You settle up when the job is finished, other than that small refundable hold on your date. We take card, check, or cash, and you okay the flat rate on the spot before the truck heads out.

Do you take a deposit?

Just a small refundable hold on your crew and your date, that is all. Everything else is due when the job is finished, and the estimate never costs anything.

Do stairs, a piano, or hauling get charged at the end?

No. A three-decker stair climb, a piano or a safe, and any junk we haul off are all in the flat rate before the first box moves, so the number never drifts from what Mike quoted you.

Do you move year-round, winter and summer?

Every week of the year. In the winter we sand the steps and load fast so nothing sits out in the cold; in the summer we start early and keep things in the shade. Your date holds whether it is a January cold snap or a humid August afternoon in the city.

How do you handle Providence traffic?

We plan around it. The drive is timed against I-95, I-295, and Route 146, we work around the downtown and 195 bottlenecks at rush hour, and the window we gave you still holds.

Can you handle three-deckers and narrow city stairs?

All the time. Providence, Pawtucket, and Woonsocket are full of three- and four-story triple-deckers with narrow, winding staircases and no elevator, and those tight stair carries are exactly what our crew handles, planned and priced ahead.

Will you move a piano, a safe, or other heavy stuff?

Yes, and it is baked into your flat rate. Pianos, gun safes, jukeboxes, and other heavyweights go on the correct board with proper straps and padding, wrestled out by guys who have shifted no shortage of them, 300-pound pieces up a staircase included.

Can you deal with downtown building COIs?

Yes. Downtown and East Side buildings often require a Certificate of Insurance along with a booked elevator or dock. Pass along whatever the building asks for and we take care of the COI and lock the time slot ahead.

Do you haul away junk and do cleanouts?

We do, and it is half of what we do, right there in the name. We can haul off old furniture, a mattress, or a whole cleanout on the same trip as your move or as its own job, and it is dumped or donated the right way, folded into your flat rate.

How much notice should I give?

A week or two ahead works for most moves, and the ends of months go first. If the crew has an opening we will still take a same-week or next-day job, even a last-minute one, so it never hurts to give Mike a call.

How do the floors and walls stay unscuffed?

Runners go down on the floors, the door casings and railings get padded, and the furniture is blanket-wrapped first, so the old place and the new one both come out unmarked, tight three-decker stairwells and all.

What areas of Rhode Island do you serve?

All of Greater Providence and northern Rhode Island, from Providence, Pawtucket, and Cranston out through Johnston, Cumberland, and Lincoln, up to Woonsocket and Smithfield, plus long-distance moves around New England.

Ready for a flat rate you can plan the whole Providence move around?

Your flat rate comes straight from Mike, usually the same working day you ask.
